I started work here in May, which was right around the time our CTO was getting all geared up to go to some music thing in Europe. Not knowing anyone and where these people are coming from I was a bit confused at first. Why would someone from a software company want to go to some concert in Europe? What did Eurovision have to do with software? I thought, well maybe Windward was partnering with the European music industry to create some new app or software. Or maybe Eurovision was going to use Windward Reporting software to create reports for the contest. Well. During the time he was gone we were updated pretty much in almost real time on every aspect of the Eurovision experience. I read blogs, watched videos…still a little confused. (It’s so hard being the new kid with this kind of thing going on)
After I settled in and got to know people a bit more I started to ask around. Got in touch with a friend on Facebook who knows someone who was there. So we end up talking and she gives me the down-low on the whole ordeal. Now being a club kid from way back in the day, and my overall love of music in general (still waiting for the electric hookup for my cello to go full out techno), I was naturally curious. Got in a conversation with our CTO and he offered the videos of the last few years of Eurovision. Now I had watched a bunch of the performances on YouTube, but he assured me the videos were much better. (and they were)
So as I’m watching the performances I can pretty much form an opinion. Either they are okay; LOVE them or hate them. Except one. The wonder that is Cezar.
When I first saw him on stage in this black get-up the first thing that crosses my mind is Non from Superman (Jack O’Halloran Superman 1978). Just waiting for his image to float around the arena in a flat glass box. (For those non Superman fans….watch the movie). Then the music started. I”m like okay this could be catchy…I may get into this. Then he started singing…….(mass confusion of crickets). I honestly don’t know where to go with this. It started out okay, I mean he’s Romanian singing English…it’s going to be a little awkward. Then the song continued. Now. I thought maybe it’s just this song. So I YouTube and listen to some of his other songs. (Specifically his rendition of “White Christmas” stuck out for me). I’m just confused!
I think I would recommend to him to look at a different genre of music, stick to some ballads (maybe rock!) and pick an octave….maybe try opera. He has a really good voice, it’s very impressive. He seems to have a larger than life presence. It just seems to me that he hasn’t found himself as a singer yet. I watched some interviews with him. He is very personable and I like him. I want to love his art. Maybe he could get a TV show! I would so watch it!!!!!
I’m finishing up watching the rest of the Eurovision contests this weekend. I end up getting bogged down learning about the countries and then doing some research on the performers I have never heard of. But I have to say so far I have really enjoyed all of it (even the ones I”m not so crazy about….)
